Social or environmental benefits provided by a project in addition to the greenhouse gas emission reductions/removals that generate carbon credits. For example, a project that restores natural ecosystems and has benefits for carbon storage, biodiversity, and local communities. Credit standards can indicate if a project provides certain co-benefits through independent certifications (e.g., Verra’s Climate, Community, and Biodiversity certification for projects that contribute to biodiversity) or by indicating which UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that the projects contribute towards.
