SBTi

Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals. More than 4,000 businesses around the world are already working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Join them today.

SCALE

The Scale of a project may refer to a variety of definitions for example areal extent, size of impact or units provided. Scale is not limited in Gold Standard for the Global Goals but is dealt with in the Activity Requirements, Methodologies and Product Requirements where specific definitions and requirements are included.

SCALING

Determination of the gross and net volume of logs using the customary commercial volumetric units for the product involved.

SCARIFYING

With respect to soil, it is the removal of the top litter layer of an area (usually in strips) for site preparation. With respect to seed, it is the abrasion, or weakening, of the seed coat to encourage germination.

SCATTERING (OF LIGHT)

An interaction of a light wave with an object like tiny particles of dust or soot, that cause the light to be redirected.

SCENARIO

A plausible description of how the future may develop based on a coherent and internally consistent set of assumptions about key driving forces (e.g., rate of technological change, prices) and relationships. Note that scenarios are neither predictions nor forecasts, but are used to provide a view of the implications of developments and actions. See also […]

SCENARIO STORYLINE

A narrative description of a scenario (or family of scenarios), highlighting the main scenario characteristics, relationships between key driving forces and the dynamics of their evolution. Also referred to as ‘narratives’ in the scenario literature. See also Narratives.

SCHEME INSTRUMENT

A credit issued by a Scheme Regulator for a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction or GHG removal enhancement of one metric tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent, pursuant to the Scheme Regulations, including but not limited to an ARB Offset Credit.

SCHEME REGULATIONS

The regulations adopted by a Scheme Regulator for a national or sub- national emissions trading or offsets scheme, including any offset protocols adopted by the Scheme Regulator and which may be amended from time to time.

SCIENCE-BASED PATHWAY

Trajectory to achieve global net zero greenhouse gas emissions based on scientific evidence.
