WATER COLUMN STUDIES

Investigations of physical and chemical characteristics of surface water, which include suspended sediment, dissolved solids, major ions, and metals, nutrients, organic carbon, and dissolved pesticides, in relation to hydrologic conditions, sources, and transport.

WATER CONSERVATION

Preservation, control, and development of water resources, both surface and groundwater, and prevention of pollution.

WATER CONTENT OF SNOW

Amount of liquid water in the snow at the time of observation. Water equivalent of snow.

WATER CONTROL

Management of water (both surface and subsurface) to maintain plant growth, water quality, wildlife habitat, and fire control.

WATER CYCLE

Cycle of evaporation and condensation that controls the distribution of the Earth’s water as it evaporates from bodies of water, condenses, precipitates and returns to those bodies of water.

WATER DEMAND

Water requirements for a particular purpose, such as irrigation, power, municipal supply, plant transpiration, or storage.

WATER EXPORTS

Water that is appropriated from sources within the state of Utah and used outside the state.

WATER GAP

A deep, narrow pass in a mountain ridge through which a stream flows.
