Focus on a good‘s attributes and their values. Choice modelling questionnaires present respondents with a series of alternative descriptions of a good. The alternative descriptions are constructed by varying the levels of the good‘s attributes. Depending on the specific choice modelling method adopted, respondents are either then asked to rank (contingent ranking), chose (choice experiments), rate (contingent rating), or choose then rate (paired comparisons) the descriptions presented. Usually, it includes the status quo or do nothing‘ option alongside one or more alterative descriptions of the good. The do nothing option is to pay nothing annually and to bear the expected annual negative side effects.
