GBF: Marco Global de Biodiversidade / Global Biodiversity Framework

The Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is an ambitious international initiative developed under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to address the ongoing biodiversity crisis. Here’s a brief update: 1. **Adoption and Objectives**: The GBF was adopted at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in December 2022. It aims to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and ensure that ecosystems are resilient and continue to provide essential services by 2050. 2. **Targets**: The framework sets out 23 action-oriented global targets for 2030. Key targets include protecting at least 30% of the world’s land and marine areas, restoring 20% of degraded ecosystems, reducing pollution from plastics and excess nutrients, and significantly increasing financial resources for biodiversity conservation. 3. **Implementation**: Countries are expected to develop and update their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to align with the GBF. The framework emphasizes the importance of integrating biodiversity considerations into all sectors and policies. 4. **Monitoring and Reporting**: A robust monitoring framework has been established to track progress towards the targets. Countries will report their achievements, challenges, and support needed through national reports submitted to the CBD. 5. **Financing**: There is a strong emphasis on mobilizing financial resources from all sources, including public, private, domestic, and international funds. Innovative financing mechanisms, such as biodiversity credits and green bonds, are also encouraged. 6. **Indigenous and Local Communities**: The GBF recognizes the crucial role of indigenous peoples and local communities in biodiversity conservation. It promotes their rights and involvement in decision-making processes. The GBF represents a global commitment to preserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable development, with a clear roadmap and targets for collective action over the next decade.
