A reduction of GHG emissions to the atmosphere or removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere that is used to compensate for an equivalent amount of emissions from another GHG emitting activity occurring elsewhere as the result of a mitigation project. For the purposes of Climate Forward, an FMU becomes a mitigation credit when it is retired.
