A process whereby formal arrangements are put into place between two (or more) Accreditation Bodies to agree that they will recognize accreditation issued by another Accreditation Body. The objective being to eliminate the need for suppliers of products or services to be accredited or certified in each country where they sell their products or services. In relation to GHG verification, this would normally mean that the Verification Body was accredited to ISO14065 by an IAF member recognized by ANSI as part of a mutual recognition agreement (MRA). Where ANSI is providing additional accreditation to a specific GHG Scheme (such as The Climate Registry), the applicant Verification Body would then need to be subject to supplementary accreditation by ANSI for the additional Scheme requirements (if any). An example of this is the Irish National Accreditation Board’s recognition of EU ETS Verification Bodies accredited by the UK Accreditation Services. There are currently no MRAs related to GHG Verification in North America.
