RESTORATION COSTS

Actual and imputed expenditures for activities aimed at the restoration of depleted or degraded natural systems, partly or completely counteracting the (accumulated) environmental impacts of economic activities. See also environmental restoration.

RESTRAINT ON ALIENATION

Restraint on Alienation is any limit on the ability of an owner to sell or transfer property.

RESTRICTION

Restriction is a limit on the owner’s ability to use the property. The limit may be contained in the deed and be binding on the land and future property owners.

RETENTION POND

Temporary containment for a material in an area where it can be treated for proper disposal.

RETIRE

To permanently remove carbon offsets from market to ensure that they are not re-sold. Offsets are usually retired by giving them individual serial numbers and placing them in an official registry.
