Vintage

Vintage in the context of carbon credits refers to the year in which the carbon reduction or removal project took place and the associated credits were generated. Each carbon credit is associated with a specific vintage year, which is important for tracking and accounting purposes in carbon markets. For example, a carbon credit from a project that reduced emissions in 2020 would have a vintage year of 2020. Vintage is often used to differentiate between credits generated in different years, which can have varying values depending on market conditions and regulations. Vintage: The year in which project emissions reductions or removals were determined to have occurred (or estimated to occur in the future). This does not have to match the year that the credits were issued; there can be lags between the actual reductions/removals and the issuance of credits, and some standards issue credits for future estimated reductions/removals.
